State of Legal Intake
and Visibility Report
We asked legal leaders on how their teams are actually operating in 2025. What’s driving alignment with the business and what’s holding them back?

The Rise of Data in Legal
Legal teams continue to struggle with visibility into ongoing work and team performance. Of the challenges identified,
51% struggle with manual, time-consuming tracking and reporting.
38% say they lack reporting tools altogether.
31% struggle with inaccurate data.
Even among those with access to data, 23% rarely or never generate reports on departmental performance.
These gaps make it difficult for legal teams to assess efficiency, identify trends, or demonstrate value to the business.
The Transformation
Legal teams are adopting automated, built-in reporting for instant insights into performance and workload — eliminating time drains, manual effort, and data gaps. They’re using tools that cover all legal work, not just CLM or e-billing.
Many teams now view a centralized legal front door (50% of respondents) as essential to structuring requests, standardizing triage, and eliminating fragmented communication channels. This centralization lays the groundwork for real-time visibility into workload, matter progress, and team performance.
In parallel, teams are looking to optimize intake via automation and AI (38%), enabling them to capture cleaner, more actionable data. More than saving time—it’s to find meaningful insights that can drive smarter resource allocation, highlight process inefficiencies, and demonstrate legal’s impact to leadership.

“There are quarterly board and senate meetings where the GC presents notable matters that the team has worked on. This has allowed for increased headcount + recognition and visibility of our team.”
