Checkbox is a software platform that enables non-technical users to build legal workflow and AI agents.
Students design tools that combine forms for intake, decision support for logic and calculations, workflow automation for triage and approvals, document automation for creating bespoke document outputs, and AI Agents to answer frequently asked questions.
Students are introduced to logic-based thinking (“if this then that”)
(requirement gathering, prototyping, build, test, deploy) without all the technical bits
To provide a practical experiential learning experience for the students, external organizations such as law firms, corporates, or not-for-profits can be included by the Law School as part of the course.
These organizations can provide an insight into the types of problems that they face and how technology is put into practice in the real world. They can also be embedded within student teams as industry mentors.
Solutions built through the course are then made available for free to charity partners to the programme.
The Next Generation of
Law Students
“Checkbox's interface is easy to navigate and use with drag and drop features. With these features, we were able to easily make changes to our workflow and templates. This meant that we could be more agile and incorporate user feedback at every stage of our project to fine-tune our templates and add new components as we went along.
It was easy to see how each component would connect with the next, and we could sense-check our solution without having to test all possible iterations of user responses. We were able to achieve more with less time using Checkbox.”
“Checkbox is designed so well that after just a one hour tutorial and tour of its key features, the students are able to dive into the programme and start designing. The apps my law students developed for the assessment tasks were functioning, sophisticated and useful.”
“Our students found the app-creation software incredibly user friendly, which meant it was possible for students to create a fully operational app over the course of a semester. The Checkbox team were professional, accessible and always helpful; their first-rate support was central to the incredible success of the Legal APPtitude unit.”
“Checkbox is easy to use, especially in comparison to other platforms I have used for app building. I really enjoyed the visual aspect of creating the app. In particular, the pathway you can create and see when using the studio makes it really easy to follow the user’s experience. Having never created an app before, it was great seeing how a simple idea, executed well, can create a great foundation for an app.”

“Checkbox is deliberately open-ended and limitless in terms of its application. The freedom to design new concepts that could benefit the legal community was a win-win for students and industry alike. The versatility of Checkbox is why I highly recommend it as the number one platform for all future-minded law students.”
